The Medic Zealot

[s]korea[/s]This article hits home more than others. Many of you know I am a physician or hakim by trade. Fortunately for my studies I found this game well into my second year of Internal Medicine residency and long after my medical school. It is thus that I did not have to endure the addiction of this game during the better part of all my medical formation.

I just found this amazing article about a pro-gamer, South Korea Jeon Ju-hyun. The article talks about his long path towards becoming a physician. Let me lead you my quotes.

It took Mr. Jeon six years after graduating from medical school to be certain he wanted to become a doctor. He could have chosen a far easier ? and faster ? route, but first he had to be a pro game player, serve in the military, work as a real-estate agent and an auto mechanic and even spend some time on the unemployment rolls before passing the National Exam for Medical Practitioners this year.Tiring of his medical studies, he came upon something that made him feel alive ? the online game StarCraft. Without knowing it, from his first try he was hooked... Concentrating all of his energy on his cyber-mission, he slept no more than three hours a day. Nine months later, he had earned a No. 1 ranking in the Starcraft World Championship. He then wandered the country from one PC-room tournament to another, raking in prize money at each contest. In that one year, he won 60 million won ($50,000) in contest money. The article then proceeds to explain how he later failed the national doctors' exam and ended up in the army only to come out of it as a real estate agent; a career he studied in his spare time whilst serving in there.

He comes out of the army and instead of trying his luck as a real estate agent he decides to pursue another of his childhood dreams. He becomes a car mechanic. This guy is as intriguing as it gets. Finally motivated by unspoken promises to his mother and all in the honour of a mother's tear he picks up the medical books again and is now undergoing his internship year of residency having finally finished medical school. Amazing story!

I will leave you now with some very wise words by Jeon Ju-hyun.

"I like the Zealot in particular because it has a powerful propulsive force, yet it is quiet" Click below for the link.

Now for the golden question that I have been asking myself and I already see many asking in the replies, what was is aka?
