Phil Galfond Steps Down at Bluefire Poker

In what was sure to come as a surprise to many, Phil Galfond has announced via his blog that he is leaving training site Bluefire Poker of which he is an original founder.

“As of today, BluefirePoker.com and I are parting ways. It’s very hard to walk away from something I helped build from the ground up,” he wrote. “Please know that it was a very difficult decision that I struggled with for a long, long time. I’m sorry that I can’t elaborate further,” said Galfond on the Bluefire poker forums.
To add a bit of mystery to the story, Galfond says that he is no longer able to log-in to the Bluefire site and that his blog post that originally announced the news has since been deleted. After he was blocked from posting on the forums, Galfond tweeted “I’ll have to find somewhere else to post my final 4 videos, I’m extremely embarrassed about all of this. I’m sorry guys.”

Though it’s unclear why the two ended their relationship, it seems that they aren’t on the most amicable of terms. The news is sure to have a significant impact on Bluefire, as Phil Galfond and Bluefire are nearly synonymous to many. For a site that has always featured the slogan, “Quality over Quantity,” it will be interesting to see if Bluefire can distinguish itself from the rest of the pack after losing what many consider poker’s best instructor and mind.
