Prior to this event, Hastings had little success in his time playing live tournaments with a runner-up finish in the €5k Heads-Up event at this year’s EPT Grand Final in Madrid his only score.
According to HendonMob.com, Hastings' live tournament earnings are approaching $300,000.
Hastings had recently blogged concerning his options regarding poker in the wake of Black Friday. He indicated that while enjoying live play more than in the past, he felt his online opportunity was more lucrative and that it would likely lead to a short term move out of the country. He had indicated he might visit Phil Galfond in Vancouver to see if that were a good option for him.
