Negreanu in 5th after Day 1 of $5k 6-max NLHE WSOP

Daniel Negreanu has had a frustrating 2011 World Series of Poker so far. The affable and highly visible player reach such levels of frustration in recent event that he smashed his $290 headphones after another tough suckout to stomach. Negreanu is hoping his fast start in the $5k No Limit Holdem 6-Max tournament will change all that.

There are 175 poker players remaining of the original starting field of 732 players. The money bubble set to burst sometime Friday when just 78 players remain. The large field will ensure this is the third 2011 WSOP event to award over $800k to the winner.

Negreanu sits in 5th after day 1 with 162,000 chips. Other notable pros who had strong Day 1's include Phil Hellmuth, 2010 November Niner Matt Jarvis, Matt Hawrilenko, Shaun Deeb, Faraz Jaka, Isaac Haxton, and Dave "The Devilfish" Ulliot all ending the day with at least 60k chips.

Some notables who didn't fare well on Day 1 include Maria Ho, Joe Cada, David Benyamine, Justin Bonomo, Allen Bari and Jason Mercier.
