The long-awaited Professor Layton adventure is finally launching later this year.
Professor Layton and the New World of Steam finally has a release date, with LEVEL-5 confirming that the puzzle adventure will launch for Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch on 10 December 2026.
The release date was announced during the Nintendo Direct on Wednesday (9 September), more than three years after New World of Steam was first revealed in February 2023.
LEVEL-5 had originally planned to release the game in 2025 before pushing it back to 2026, leaving Professor Layton fans waiting a little longer for Hershel Layton and Luke Triton's next adventure.

What is Professor Layton and the New World of Steam?
Professor Layton and the New World of Steam is the newest entry in LEVEL-5's long-running puzzle-adventure series, returning the focus to Professor Hershel Layton and his apprentice Luke Triton.
The series previously followed Layton and Luke across an original trilogy and a three-game prequel trilogy, ending with Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy in 2013. The franchise later continued with 2017's Layton's Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaires' Conspiracy, which instead centred on Layton's daughter Katrielle.
New World of Steam picks up one year after the events of Professor Layton and the Unwound Future, the final game in the original trilogy. Luke is now living in America, where his talent for solving local mysteries has earned him the nickname "Great Detective Luke". The pair reunite in Steam Bison, a rapidly developing American town powered by steam technology, where a mysterious incident draws them into another adventure.
The puzzles in New World of Steam are being created by QuizKnock, a Japanese media group led by Takuji Izawa that combines quizzes, entertainment, and learning. The group produces articles and videos built around making new knowledge fun and accessible, while its YouTube channel had more than 2.34 million subscribers as of September 2024.
