Metro 2039 has unveiled a new gameplay trailer, Collector's Edition and February 2027 release window.
At Gamescom 2026, Ukrainian studio 4A Games unveiled a second gameplay trailer for Metro 2039 while also revealing a new release window for the dark Metro experience. Metro 2039 is now set to launch in February 2027 as opposed to its previously revealed Winter 2026 release window.
The trailer offered a deeper look at protagonist “The Stranger”, alongside glimpses of the game's environments and combat. The studio also dropped a look at its Collector's Edition, which will soon be open for pre-orders.

What is Metro 2039?
Metro 2039 is the fourth instalment in 4A Games' Metro series, delivering a darker take on the post-apocalyptic setting in Moscow in the year 2039. Like its predecessors, the game is a single-player, story-driven first-person shooter.
The game takes place 25 years after a nuclear war. For a long time, the survivors of Moscow were entangled in a civil war but were then brought under a single authoritarian regime called Novoreich, led by a Spartan known as Hunter. He appears to be the game’s antagonist. Meanwhile, players follow the protagonist known as the Stranger, who is drawn back into the Metro after suffering violent nightmares.
The story explores the grim aftermath of war, with the developers highlighting three central themes: “The Cost of Silence, The Horrors of Tyranny, and the Price of Freedom.” The game's themes are inspired in part by the real-world horrors of the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine.
When is Metro 2039's release date?
4A Games previously revealed that Metro 2039 was targeting a “Winter 2026” release window. However, the newly unveiled gameplay trailer at Gamescom 2026 confirmed a revised window, with the game now set to launch in February 2027.
A specific release date is yet to be confirmed.
