What is Nintendo Switch Sports Resort?
Nintendo is asking players to pick up their Joy-Cons and get moving with Nintendo Switch Sports Resort, a spiritual successor to Wii Fit. The game brings players back to Wuhu Island, a location that was first introduced in 2007’s Wii Fit. The location has appeared in plenty of crossovers in games like Smash Bros. Ultimate (which also featured the Wii Fit Trainer as a fighter) and Mario Kart 7.
The location’s large footprint largely comes down to the cultural relevance of Wii Fit–almost 19 years later, the game remains one of the Nintendo Wii’s most popular titles. Wuhu Island also appeared in the Wii Fit sequel, Wii Sports Resort.
Nintendo Switch Sports Resort thus seems more thematically tied to the latter game, set in Wuhu Island with a total of 12 sports to play, including boxing, table tennis, archery, tennis, volleyball, bowling, basketball, golf, thumb wrestling, skateboarding, power cruising, and prop plane flying.
These games can be played using the Joy-Con’s motion controls. You can also play the title with others or in solo mode. Nintendo Switch Sports Resort launches on 22 October, 2026, on Nintendo Switch 2.
