The Undertale side-quel Deltarune is releasing a new story chapter.
This week’s Nintendo Direct saw an unexpected but entirely welcome announcement: Deltarune Chapter 5 is officially launching this month. The game’s next batch of story content will launch as a free update on 24 June, 2026.

When is Deltarune Chapter 5 coming out?
Deltarune Chapter 5 will launch on all platforms on 24 June, 2026. The game’s release date was announced during this week’s Nintendo Direct, teasing what players can expect in the game’s next big story update. Developer Toby Fox hinted at Chapter 5’s story as such:
“In Chapter 4, we saw dark clouds on the horizon… That’s why, let’s not look there for now. Let’s turn around and watch the sun, before it goes down completely. Let’s smile again. Let’s have one more fun adventure, okay?
When is Deltarune Chapter 6 coming out?
Toby Fox also issued an update on how the rest of Deltarune’s planned story chapters are shaping up, via a recently-released newsletter. The developer confirmed the following progress updates:
- Cutscenes / NPC interactions: Making good progress.
- Overworld gameplay: We’ve created all the basic gimmicks of the chapter. (Gimmick = climbing, puzzles, etc.) Now, we need to create a few more rooms utilizing these gimmicks.
- Normal enemies & bullets: Mostly complete.
- Boss & bullets: We are working on the bullets of the last battle of the chapter.
Fox noted that Chapter 6 is “easier to make than the others” and that development on the new content is going quickly. The development team might even be able start working on Chapter 7 before the end of 2026, as a result.
