Final Fantasy VII: Revelation
Developer: Square Enix
Platforms: PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, Epic Games Store and Steam (PC)
Release date: Spring 2027
What is Final Fantasy VII Revelation?
Final Fantasy VII Revelation will be the climactic ending to the Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy, which began with Final Fantasy VII Remake (2020) and continued with Final Fantasy VII Rebirth (2024). The game will feature new playable characters in Vincent Valentine and Cid Highwind, who both appeared in Rebirth as NPCs, rather than fully-fledged party members.
The game will also allow players to explore new regions of the planet on the Highwind, a flying ship piloted by Cid, which returns from the original game. The trailer teased that players would be able to dive through the skies to land in certain areas from the ship, though it’s unclear if they’ll be able to fly around the world from the get-go.
Cloud’s entire party (minus a certain flower-seller) returns in this game, and some of them–Yuffie specifically–will get more fleshed-out storylines this time, by the looks of it. We saw parts of her home, Wutai, in today’s trailer. The area was previously excluded from previous games in the trilogy, but factors heavily into her storyline from the original game.
The remake trilogy’s hybrid of turn-based and real-time combat is also said to be perfected from Final Fantasy VII: Revelation, with the addition of new outfits Cloud and his party can wear for new combat perks.
Here is Square Enix’s official description for Final Fantasy VII Revelation:
“As the world teeters on the brink of annihilation, the final battle against Sephiroth begins. A meteor mars the sky, monstrous planetary guardians wreak havoc across the globe, and the fires of war rage. Now, Cloud and his companions must stand against this chaos to not only decide the planet's fate, but bring a legendary conflict to its conclusion. In the final chapter of the FINAL FANTASY VII remake project, the scale has never been larger and the stakes have never been higher. Take to the skies and explore a boundless world, fight alongside a fully assembled party, master strategic and dynamic combat, and prepare yourself for the climactic finale. A vast planet awaits. Everything leads here.”
When is Final Fantasy VII Revelation coming out?
Final Fantasy VIII Revelation is officially launching on all platforms in Spring 2027, marking the first entry in this trilogy to break timed PlayStation console exclusivity.
