What is Temtem: Pioneers about?
Game developer Temtem has revealed a unique new spin-off to its Pokémon-like franchise: Temtem: Pioneers. The game trades Temtem’s MMO gameplay for a survival-sandbox experience, allowing players to collect creatures and build homes together with them. A few of the game’s creatures, like Bellora and Dracub, were shown off in the reveal trailer.
The game will kick off with players crashing their airship, the Narwhal, far away from the comforts of the Archipelago. Here, they’ll explore all-new frontiers in the Downbelow, an untamed region where Temtems roam wild and free.
The game will take on a survival gameplay loop, with players having to explore, collect resources, make shelter, and befriend Temtem in the Downbelow in order to live another day. The survival mechanics aren’t terribly harsh, however, focusing on crafting and upgrading tools rather than pressuring the player.
Temtem will also be essential for the player’s survival in this game, with over 200 of them to collect. Each Temtem offers unique moves, along with methods of traversal and exploration. Some Temtem can glide, for example, while others can surf on waves.
The game’s combat will flow in real time, with players having to connect attacks to form combos in order to wear out their opponents. Temtems also have unique Techniques to cast in combat for this purpose.
Temtem: Pioneers is now available for crowdfunding via Kickstarter, and a release date has not been revealed yet. As of the time of writing, the game has managed to rack up US$42,913 out of its $104,965 goal.
