A closed beta for the upcoming Expanse game has been announced.
Game developer Owlcat Games’ upcoming adaptation of James S. A. Corey’s sci-fi book series The Expanse, entitled The Expanse: Osiris Reborn, is officially launching sometime in Spring 2027. The game will also receive a closed beta starting on 22 April, 2026, as revealed in a recent trailer during the March 2026 Xbox Partner Preview livestream.

When is The Expanse: Osiris Reborn coming out?
The Expanse: Osiris Reborn is set in the same universe as the eponymous books written by James S. A. Corey, a pen name shared by authors Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck. The books are set in a far-flung future where emerging sci-fi anomalies, warring factions, and technological developments set humanity on a path across the stars.
The game follows an original cast of characters, with the protagonist (whose gender, appearance, and background are customisable) being accompanied by their identical twin J. Both siblings join Pinkwater Security as mercenaries, and end up witnessing a widespread massacre on Eros station amid a series of unfortunate events.
In the above gameplay trailer, Owlcat showed off its Mass Effect-like take on The Expanse universe, with the player being able to form a team of companions to help them along their journey. The game’s story missions will also ask players to make choices with long-lasting consequences.
Owlcat did not announce a firm release date for the game today, but it did reveal a planned launch window of Spring 2027.
How to play The Expanse: Osiris Reborn closed beta
Thankfully, fans of The Expanse won’t have to wait until 2027 to play The Expanse: Osiris Reborn. A closed beta for the game will go live on 22 April, 2026, though it will only be accessible to anyone who has purchased the game’s Miller’s Pack or Collector’s Edition. The closed beta will remain available until the game’s launch date.
The closed beta will see the player returning to their base on Pinkwater 4 Station, where they will have to make difficult choices and meet a companion named Zafar.
