The Legend of Zelda movie reveals live-action Link and Zelda in official images

Link and Zelda are heading to the big screen.

Sony Pictures Releasing and Nintendo have officially released a first look at their upcoming The Legend of Zelda live-action adaptation. New images released on the Nintendo Today app gave users an early look at the titular Princess Zelda, played by Bo Bragason, and the iconic adventurer Link, played by Benjamin Evan Ainsworth.

The images see Link and Zelda take a knee in a grassy field, presumably meant to depict Hyrule.

Sony and Nintendo’s live-action adaptation of the legendary The Legend of Zelda franchise began filming earlier this month in Wellington, New Zealand. Filming is set to conclude next year, in April 2026–but early images and videos from the film’s production have already made their way online, thanks to a few fans who managed to track down its filming locations.

Thankfully, fans don’t have to rely on covertly captured videos to get their first look at Link and Zelda, as Nintendo has opted to publish official reveals for both characters by itself. The games giant released three pictures from the production's set, all-in-all. One depicts Link and Zelda pondering their next move in a grassy field, while the other two offer fans a closer look at both characters in portrait form.

Link and Zelda’s costumes look authentic to The Legend of Zelda games, though it is interesting that Zelda’s outfit more closely resembles her design in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. This was a more recent, and yet still pivotal, entry in the series. Link’s outfit, however, appears to be inspired by his classic green-themed look in the original games. He’s just missing his sock-like hat.

Little is known about The Legend of Zelda movie’s main plot, though it was recently revealed that Dichen Lachman (Severance) is set to play Impa. The movie will hit theatres on 7 May, 2027, following a recent delay. Wes Ball (Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes) is set to direct, with Nintendo and Sony Pictures co-financing the film.
