Nintendo delays The Legend of Zelda movie by “some weeks”
Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda movie has officially been delayed from 26 March, 2027 to 7 May, 2027. That places the film nearer to summer blockbuster season, where incidentally, it will open next to films like Star Wars: Starfighter (28 May) and Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse (4 June).
Nintendo shared a statement on social media confirming the delay:
This is Miyamoto. For production reasons, we are changing the release date of the live-action film of The Legend of Zelda to May 7, 2027. It will be some weeks later than the release timing we originally announced, and we will take the extra time to make the film as good as it can be. Thank you for your patience.
Nintendo and Sony Pictures are co-financing the live-action movie adaptation, with Sony handling theatrical distribution. Wes Ball (The Maze Runner series and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes) is set to direct the project, with Derek Connolly (Jurassic World) handling the script.
While no casting announcements have been made for the movie yet, rumours recently began circulating that Euphoria lead Hunter Schafer was being eyed to play Zelda. However, a later rumour noted that she is now being eyed for a role in an upcoming Marvel Studios movie, and will not play Zelda.
The Legend of Zelda movie adaptation will hit theatres on 7 May, 2027.
