Battlefield 6 developer clarifies presence of bots in beta test, working to fix issues

Battlefield 6’s beta has officially kicked off, but are those bots in your server?

Electronic Arts’ early access beta for Battlefield 6 will soon enter its second day, but issues within the beta have already begun to crop up. Some players are unable to log in to the game, or are finding issues with the UI.

Other players worry that the beta’s servers are populated by AI bots–following a statement from developer Battlefield Studios that underpopulated servers in the game would be filled with bots. The developer has since confirmed that this isn’t the case.

Battlefield 6 early access beta goes live, players get hit with login issues

Battlefield 6’s early access beta has officially gone live, and as expected, the game has a variety of minor issues impacting players on day one. The game’s community team confirmed an issue with players being unable to login or start a game, or receiving error messages about the early access beta simply being unavailable.

I can attest to the beta being slightly glitchy myself, with strange physics, network lag, and buggy character models popping up throughout my playtime in the beta’s early hours. Thankfully, I haven’t run into major issues like login woes, besides the infamous 200,000+ strong queue of players who lined up to play the beta when it launched.

Battlefield Studios immediately increased the game’s server capacity, so that wasn’t an issue for long.

Are there AI bots in the Battlefield 6 beta?

During a Battlefield 6 multiplayer reveal event, one of the game’s developers confirmed that bots would be used to fill up unpopulated servers during matchmaking. Fans reacted rather negatively to that news at first, but Battlefield 6’s community team has now come out to say that they needn’t worry–at least, not about the beta.

In a social media post, the team noted that “AI Soldiers are only present on the "Training Grounds" playlists within the Open Beta. This week is "Breakthrough Initiation".” In Breakthrough Initiation, players will play through the Breakthrough game mode alongside other players and AI soldiers. The game’s full-fledged Breakthrough mode does not feature bots.

In Training Grounds, players can learn the ropes of the beta’s modes with a lot less chaos involved. Training Grounds modes will only be available up to rank 15, after which they will disappear from the beta’s front end.
