The creators of the Like a Dragon franchise are behind this Virtua Fighter reboot.
Sega and Like a Dragon franchise developer Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio have officially released a first look at gameplay for its upcoming Virtua Fighter game. The one minute-long trailer is short and to the point, showing off gameplay with sleek visuals and fluid combat between two fighters.

Virtua Fighter shows off first look at combat gameplay
Sega’s upcoming reboot of the Virtua Fighter game franchise comes 19 long years after the release of its last mainline installment, Virtua Fighter 5 (2006). The franchise’s revival was confirmed in 2024, with game developer Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, of Like a Dragon franchise fame, heading a modern reboot.
Following the festivities of Evo 2025, Sega published an early look at Virtua Fighter, which appears to be the official title of this new installment. The video is fairly short, and features Akira and Sarah Bryant–two returning Virtua Fighter characters–as they engage in combat in a generic training stage.
There is no music and no visible HUD in the video, so one can expect a meatier reveal to follow. In fact, one can expect it very soon; the video promises more information on Virtua Fighter during Tokyo Game Show this September, which runs from 25 to 28 September, 2025.
Sega is also reviving its Crazy Taxi and Jet Set Radio franchises, although we haven’t gotten a good look at both of these series’ new installments just yet. The publisher is also working on a remake of Persona 4, entitled Persona 4 Revival.
