The unboxing video has since been taken down.
Someone has reportedly unboxed the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 console ahead of its official launch, and shared the footage on YouTube. The seven-second clip was swiftly removed following a copyright strike, but it has still managed to stir up speculation and excitement ahead of the console’s 5 June release.
Leaked footage shows alleged Nintendo Switch 2
According to a report by Kotaku, the short video was uploaded by a user named a2dubai under the straightforward title “Nintendo Switch 2 unboxing”. The footage, which lasted under eight seconds, shows a sealed Switch 2 box sitting beside the current Nintendo Switch. The unboxer then reveals a Switch 2 screen and Joy-Con, both wrapped in protective plastic.
While there's no confirmation yet that the console is authentic, the prompt takedown by anti-piracy firm Web Capio strongly suggests the leak might be real. However, the unit shown in the video is reportedly unusable for now, as it allegedly requires a day-one update to function.
Console Allegedly Requires Internet Update to Boot
Gaming news insider Wario64 also weighed in on the situation via X, saying, “Another person shared with me that they have a Nintendo Switch 2 as well. I have no permission to post pics but can share that when they try to boot a Switch 1 game, a message prompts ‘Please connect to the internet and update your system. Needs update to boot a game.”
Nintendo remains silent as leaks continue
Nintendo has yet to comment publicly on whether these leaked units are genuine. With the official launch still over a week away, fans will have to wait until 5 June to verify if the footage and claims are real or just an elaborate fake.
In recent weeks, boxes of Nintendo Switch 2 consoles have reportedly been spotted inside locked cages at Target stores in the US, further fuelling speculation that some units may already be in distribution ahead of launch.
The Nintendo Switch 2 is set to release on 5 June 2025 with a strong lineup of games. First-party titles like Mario Kart World and Switch 2 Welcome Tour will debut alongside enhanced versions of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
Third-party developers are also backing the console with major titles such as Cyberpunk 2077, Street Fighter 6, and Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut confirmed for launch.
Looking ahead, Donkey Kong: Bonanza is scheduled for release in July 2025, while other anticipated titles such as The Duskbloods, Pokémon Legends Z-A, and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond are expected to launch later in the year, although specific dates have not yet been announced.
Nintendo has confirmed free Switch 2 updates for 12 existing Switch games, which will improve resolution and frame rates. The updates will also introduce GameShare support, allowing users to share a game using a single copy.
Additionally, the console will feature mouse support, as confirmed by a developer working on Nobunaga’s Ambition: Awakening Complete Edition.
With just days to go before launch, the Nintendo Switch 2 continues to generate buzz, both from official announcements and the ever-growing number of leaks. Whether the leaked footage is legitimate or not, fans won’t have to wait much longer to find out.
