Activision might paywall limited-time Call of Duty modes behind battle passes.
Activision is rumoured to be implementing new changes to its Call of Duty battle passes. According to leaker TheGhostofHope (via Insider Gaming), Activision wants to add even more seasonal limited-time modes to the game behind a paywall, making players fork up for the battle pass to play them.
This means that players will have to pay extra to play specific Call of Duty game modes in the future, should this change become official.
Activision might add limited-time Call of Duty game modes to battle passes
Good news: Activision is planning to add more seasonal limited-time modes (LTMs) to Call of Duty. Bad news: it’s also planning to paywall these new game modes behind Call of Duty’s battle passes. Instead of allowing everyone to try out the modes at launch, players will now have to grind through the battle pass to unlock them.
Insider Gaming notes that players will only be able to unlock these modes by spending US$20-30 on the battle pass. More valuable skins might also move into the battle pass, instead of premium event passes.
One should also note that Microsoft recently made it clear that a selection of its first-party games will soon cost US$80, and Call of Duty is a likely candidate for the price bump. It's not just video games, either. Xbox consoles, headsets, and accessories have seen huge price increases as well. Game prices are only set to change towards the end of the year.
Insider Gaming also claims that this year’s Call of Duty game is a “semi-futuristic” sequel to Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, set around the 2030-2035 time period. Remastered maps from Black Ops 2 will be added to the game.
