A lot happens during a week in Dota 2, and not everything makes headlines. Here's what you might have missed while ESL One Berlin Major wrapped up.
Nothing is ever stagnant or dull when it comes to the Dota 2 scene. Amidst the DPC league play, tournaments, Majors, patches, and roster swaps, more happens that don't always make the headlines.
May 7th the ESL One Berlin Major came to an end crowning Gaimin Gladiators back-to-back Major champions. Since then rosters began to shuffle around their players in hopes of securing more DPC points and better positions during the last Tour of the DPC 2022-23 season.
This is a bit of what happened in the last week that might have gotten missed, primarily as the Division I league gets ready to kick off.
- PGL announced that OldG would have to compete in the open qualifiers instead of heading into the closed qualifiers.
- Fans will remember that OldG were forced to forfeit their 6/7th place series (the series that would determine if the team was dropped from Division II or would remain there for the last Tour). As a result, they dropped from Division II.
- Normally a dropped team would have to compete in the closed qualifiers for a spot in Division II again, but PGL has issued a penalty to the team due to 'harassment' and 'threats' from when the incident occurred.
- Veteran player Rasmus "MISERY" Filipsen will be returning to the competitive landscape as a coach. Misery has assumed the coach position for Bleed Esports as Lee "Forev" Sang-don has parted ways with the organization.
- With Ammar "ATF" Al-Assaf and Sumail "SumaiL" Hassan parting ways with Nigma Galaxy, the team has signed former D2 Hustlers player Yuma "Yuma" Langlet and Kasra "Mikey" Mesbah who made waves in DreamLeague Season 19 when he stood in for Shopify Rebellion.
- Team SMG has replaced Kam "Moon" Boon Seng and Wilson "poloson" Koh with Natthaphon "Masaros" Ouanphakdee and Jaunuel "Jaunuel" Arcilla
There is only one Tour left in order to secure enough points for a direct invite to The International.
Otherwise, teams will need to go through the expected regional qualifiers.
The International 12 has been announced to return to Seattle, Washington in the US during October.
