Evil Geniuses finish 3rd at the Kuala Lumpur Major

The American squad took home $100,000 and 2100 DPC points after a rough BO3 series against Virtus. pro who advanced to the grand finals.

The last day of the Malaysian Major started off with two of the top three teams vying for their spot in the grand finals in the BO3 lower bracket match. Evil Geniuses fought their way through the lower bracket, first eliminating PSG.LGD and then NiP in a commanding show of skill and composure.

Virtus.pro stood in their way of a shot at Team Secret and the first title for some of the members of the team. And as was soon evident, it would prove to be a hurdle too great. Game 1 was an absolute slaughter-fest, with Roman "RAMZES666" Kushnarev's Spectre and Vladimir "No[o]ne" Minenko's Invoker giving flawless performances with a 15-0-24 and 14-0-19 KDA respectively.

It seemed as though EG's first loss was too demoralizing for them after Artour "Arteezy" Babaev's Terrorblade failed them, which prompted them to go against the meta and pick a surprise Juggernaut for the carry player. Unfortunately, things weren't too different in Game 2, as an almost identical series of events followed in a game that was just as long and just as one-sided.

Sadly, this marks one more 3rd place finish in a long list of events for Arteezy, one of the most skilled and dedicated players in the professional Dota 2 scene. On the upside, EG collected their well-earned $100,000 and 2100 DPC points, placing them 3rd on the DPC rankings in the new season.

The event continues with the BO5 grand finals series between Virtus.pro and Team Secret that will crown the first Major winner of the season.
