Hao retires: "I'll rest for half a year, or possibly, forever"

Carry of the TI4 winning Newbee squad and the carry of Newbee at TI6, the veteran Chinese player has decided that his time is done as a player.

After a long history in Dota stretching back to the Dota1 days, veteran Chinese player and former TI champion, Chen 'Hao' Zhi Hao, has announced he will take six months off before deciding on whether he will return to the professional Dota scene. Hao's plan to leave Newbee and take a break was revealed in a post on his Twitter and Weibo.

Hao's post translated:

After so many years in the professional scene, I am tired,  I will rest for half a year, or possibly forever. TI, I have won it, I have lost it, and it's all in the past now. This year, I have let the fans supporting me down, I am deeply sorry, hopefully you (fans) will get used to the tournaments without me, and I also hope you will continue to support me. Although I am not competing, you will frequently see me.

On this note, Hao temporarily ends his Dota career on a 9th-12th place finish at TI6, and a total career earning of $1.7 million (according to eSportearnings). Six months from now, around February or March of next year, Hao will probably join the pre-TI roster shuffle or make an announcement about his permanent retirement.

Hao is a veteran Chinese carry player who is known for his aggressive style and his signature Spectre. He has mainly been on three teams over the past few years, participating and finishing fourth at TI3 with Tongfu, achieving victory at TI4 with Newbee, and another fourth place finish at TI5 with VG. In this most recent showing, Hao achieved 9th place finish with Newbee at TI6.

Although nothing solid can be said about Hao's decision in six months, other veteran Chinese players have "retired" only to return a few months after. Players such as Zhang 'Xiao8' Ning and Xu 'BurNIng' Zhi Lei announced plans to retire after TI4 but resurfaced with the semi-professional team Big God and eventually re-entered the scene.
