PGL Major Antwerp: Here are your Legends

The eight teams are the current crème de la crème of CS:GO for 2022.

With the PGL Major Antwerp just a few days away, we have learned who are the Legends seeded teams for the tournament. The eight teams got their berths during the Regional Major Ranking matches that were held in the Americas, Asia and Europe.

In no particular order, here are the eight Legends team playing at Major Antwerp:

Heroic

As one of the best online-era CS:GO teams, they have been in the top 10 in the ESL and GosuGamer ranking for the past quarter of 2022. They have been fairly successful leading into Major Antwerp, but fans have noted that their performance in LAN events was not as good as online events. With more CS:GO events moving back to offline, will Heroic time run out as one of the best teams around?

Copenhagen Flames

One of the surprises of European CS:GO, this Danish team went from a back-of-the-pack team to the front-of-the-pack, first seen at Major Stockholm in 2021. Since then, they have made themselves into some sort of a comeback-king, grabbing wins where previously it looks to be impossible.

In 2022, they saw many wins, especially in the lower-tier competitions where they often are in the top 4 teams in the tournaments.

BIG

Hailing from Germany, BIG has yet to win any big tournaments thus far, but they are a solid mid-tier team that delivers middle of the road performance. Their best performance in 2022 so far has been 6th place at BLAST Premier: Spring Groups 2022; however, they did win their qualifiers for PGL Major Antwerp as well as the IEM Intel Extreme Masters XVII – Dallas so they can shine when they need to.

Cloud9

While the name is American, the roster for this Cloud9 team is Russian. The team consists of ex Gambit Esports players, and that roster is one of the best in the CS:GO scene right now. Their 2021 CV are peppered with top-tier wins, with Intel Extreme Masters XV - World Championship (1st), BLAST Premier: Spring Finals 2021 (1st) and PGL Major Stockholm 2021 (3rd) under their belt.

The Cloud9 name itself is one of the most respected names in North America – and now they will be Europe-based with the Gambit roster on board. The question on everyone’s mind will be – will they carry the names of both teams to the finals?

FURIA Esports

Flying from Brazil, FURIA has certainly made themselves in the CS:GO scene. They are one of the best South American teams in the scene right now, and while not the first Brazilian team to reach a Majors playoff, they are still up there in ranking. An amazing feat considering the pandemic the world is currently facing. Their performance in the first quarter of 2022 is a mixed bag, but it is par for the course for most teams here.

Will we see them exceed MIBR, or will they stall at the quarterfinals yet again?

FaZe Clan

The American team FaZe Clan have been on a winning streak, at least in the first quarter of 2022. They have won two first places – at ESL Pro League Season 15 and Intel Extreme Masters XVI Katowice, and third at the Intel Extreme Masters Season XVI - Fall: Europe. This is a total change from their 2021 campaign, where the best they got was winning 4th place at Intel Extreme Masters Season XVI – Cologne.

Bringing on ropz onto their roster in January this year certainly has made huge changes for the team. The question in everybody’s mind is – will they continue to maintain this winning streak?

Ninjas in Pyjamas

One of the oldest teams in the CS:GO community, NiP have been playing in most of the Majors since 2013. However, they have never breached the top 4 in any of the Major they have participated in – their best placement was in 2016 at the MLG Major Columbus where they placed 5th.  Outside of a CS:GO Major event however they have placed first, the most recent was the Intel Extreme Masters Season XVI - Fall: Europe.

Will they do a turnaround and see themselves in the semi-finals? We will just have to wait and see.

Natus Vincere

The top team of 2021 is still in the legends lineup for 2022, but just. Their run in the first quarter of 2022 has not been their best when compared to the second half of last year, which was topped with their win at PGL Major Stockholm.

We will have to see if they can carry themselves out from the slump they seem to be in right now as Major Antwerp progresses.

GosuGamers Legends Predictions

As we move into PGL Major Antwerp, we expect to see most of the Legends stay and battle in the playoffs. The team forecasts that the following teams will be in the playoffs from the Legends:

  • Cloud9
  • FaZe Clan
  • Copenhagen Flames
  • Natus Vincere
