WCG09: yAwS upsets Sky in opening match

Marc "yAwS" Förster is off to a great start in the World Cyber Games after defeating Xiaofeng "Sky" Li in the opening match on the main stage.

With the hopes of seeing their two-time champion Sky open the World Cyber Games with a win on the main stage, the Chinese masses saw one of the biggest eSports names go down to the German player in a Human mirror game.

In a cross-position matchup on Turtle Rock, yAwS could force Sky to cancel his quick expansion to claim an edge in the game.

- I was a little bit faster and I could deny his expansion. As soon as he canceled his expo, I knew, that I had a big advantage on my side and that I only needed to know how to deal with it. I myself made an expo, that he neither countered nor scouted. He probably wanted to get his Hero Level relativly high instead. He couldn't accomplish that in time and from there on it was mine, says yAwS.

Both of the Human armies had priests, spellbreakers the pandaren brewmaster and the archmage. When the two later on clashed in the middle, it was apparent that yAwS had the upper hand due to his solid income and bigger force.

- When I won, I couldn't actually believe it. He wrote "GG". I saw where the fight was heading and I knew that I had a huge advantage and that I was going to win.

In the Chinese forums, yAwS has now been given the nickname 'Chinese Human killer'. In last year's tournament he defeated InFi, also on Turtle Rock. Back then he failed to advance from his group after a three-way-tie with Grubby and SaSe.

- I am going highly motivated into the next matches and I am going to try to end the group phase with no losses. After that I'll see how that grid looks like, because anything can happen there.
