ESWC: Hail Stephano, the ESWC 2011 champion

Posted by Radoslav "Nydra" Kolev 7 months ago

After a long and utterly impressive 19-4 run throughout the tournament, Ilyes "Stephano" Satouri was crowned ESWC 2011 champion after defeating Grzegorz "Mana" Komincz in the Grand Final. Stephano also brought home a check for $26,000.

ESWC 2011 Top 8
1. France Stephano - $26,000
2. Poland Mana - $12,000
3. Korea MarineKing - $8,000
4. Netherlands Grubby - $4,000
5-8. Sweden Sjow - $2,000
5-8. Italy Cloud - $2,000
5-8. Korea MC - $2,000
5-8. Russia LiveZerg - $2,000
The talented French zerg seized another major gold after conquering IPL 3 Origins earlier this month. Stephano came on strong in the final match for ESWC 2011, playing an astonishing 40-minute long game on Shakuras Plateau, going quickly up to four hatch and waging the roach vs blink war for quite some time, before switching to hydras when immortal eventually popped out on the field. The high octane game burned for lots and lots more, both players trading army constantly until Stephano's brood lord count could not longer be ignored!

The French followed it up with unending swarm aggression on Antiga Shipyard to make his lead 2-0. Mana also showed impressive playstyle, rushing to warp prism to snipe down the queens and tumors of Stephano, but the zerg already enjoyed a gold base income and he could easily afford endless army trades that finally brought Mana to his knees.

Mana could only take a single set out of Stephano and he did it on Tal'Darim Altar by prevailing over the roach timing attack into mutalisks with his protoss deathball but Stephano craved for more blood, and quick. He opened the Metalopolis set with a speedling/baneling rush and despite the excellent forcefields of Mana, the zerg swarm flooded in to grab the gold for their overlord.

Yup, becoming. Being consistent is what matters, not just winning tourney or two. He is really good indeed, you just can't rush and say "Hey, that guy is the best foreign Zerg right now!" because it doesn't work that way.

Idra would be that best foreign Zerg, as much as I dont like saying that (if we exclude Sen that is)

#7 That's why a not that popular Zerg, has beatenhim in ESCW?

And I also think Stephano is the best. I actually think Dimaga is the best behind Stephano and can get even better.

#6 I dont think u hv been following stephano ,if u would had u shouldnt have raise that argument ,because theres hardly a foreign player more consistent then him and last but not the least , a tourney or two? IPL3 ESWC ?i hope u dont take it as just another tourney

current ranking: #1Stephano, 2nd. Sen, 3rd. IdrA, 4th. Dimaga atm. This is mine opinion since Stephano take two major tournaments with top Koreans participate but not MVP, NesTea, MMA but no1 from them manage to win vs those three or didn't play in official match. (Dimaga win over NesTea doesn't count) since was some cind of a showmatch...

So IPL3 and ESWC aren't tourneys? Whatever, I've just stated my opinion, feel free to disagree with me, not like that it is going to change much.

He already beat Sen (at Assembly Summer i think)
He also beat MMA at the IPL qualifier (but it was only a match for seeding).

#10 Dude. Pretty sure MMA was in IPL. Maybe stephano and him didnt play each other... But still.. He WAS in IPL. Also did you check out the interview artosis had with NesTea. Nestea himself said he felt something from Dimaga in that game he lost to him. If Nestea complimenting dimaga isnt a sign that the match DID count then Idk..

@Ramiz Look dude. There is no doubt, stephano and Idra are the best foreign zergs right now... results and consistency is there...
