Despite foreigner domination in the first day, the grand final of the Intel Extreme Masters New York will feature two Koreans. FruitDealer and DongRaeGu will play for the $6,500 USD prize.

FruitDealer reaches grand final with style

FruitDealer took the first game with a heavy pressure with zerglings and mutalisks which made Gatored overcompensate with phoenixes. Keeping his opponent contained and with an overlooking map control, FruitDealer went up to four bases to then just grind his opponent down by sending in roach after roach, hydralisk after hydralisk.

In the second game on Shattered Temple FruitDealer was once again seen laying heavy pressure on Gatored, roaming the map with speedlings, moving over to hydralisks and then into pure mutalisk while containing the Protoss. Three bases, over 24 mutalisks in the end to a quick-teching Gatored who suffered from immobility and no real air-support except for stalkers.

The third game saw FruitDealer do an offensive spine crawler to kill off Gatored's fast expansion defended by cannons. He then transitioned into hydralisks and could wipe out the American Protoss lonely Void Rays to advance to the grand final.

Roach war when DongRaeGu disposed KiLLeR

DongRaeGu and KiLLeR had a little baneling play back and forth in their first semi final game, to then stabilize into a roach-mutalisk play where the Korean compLexity player quite quickly and firmly outexpanded his Chilean opponent. With a superior roach army and a sharp reaction when landing his static defense, KiLLeR's one-time roach push was not enough to budge DongRaeGu.

The second game saw a similar play, but with DongRaeGu dealing heavy blows to the Dignitas player's drone line. It was then a pure roach war that ended with a favourable arc outside KiLLeR's natural at the right-side on Metalopolis.

And to finish it off, DongRaeGu caught KiLLeR's early Hatchery with his first overpool zerglings. The Chilean was then forced to cancel the hatchery and had a tough time defending his mineral line. Getting more and more behind, the loss was inevitable as the game once more turned into a roach war won by the Korean player.
