DreamHack Stockholm Invitational: Grand Final - Report

The crowd on well over 500 cheered their hearts out when White-Ra won the second game against MC. The Korean Protoss came off to a bad start, losing with his blink stalker strategy against White-Ra who had a Colossus to help battle at the ramp. Seeing MC type out, the crowd stood united with their foreign hero, nicknamed the Beast from the East.

Although, MC was able to come back on an even keel from his 0-2 position after a quick four warp gate and a well performed blink stalker strategy.

The final game had MC send out a probe right in the beginning. When just outside White-Ra's base, he placed a pylon below the high ground. When it finished he quickly laid down two gateways. White-Ra, completely in the dark, went to scout after his first gateway started to warp in, completely missing the well-placed pylon. Once he reached MC's base he noticed the complete lack of buildings. Quickly thereafter, the first zealots came running in to the Ukrainian's base. Seeing no chance to defend, White-Ra typed out.

The stream was reported to have over a 100,000 users watching. Even Sweden's biggest newspaper Aftonbladet.se's own stream had up to 50,000 at one point. The production of the event received great praise both by the players and by people watching the streams.

MC will walk home with 100,000 SEK (around €11,000 EUR). The young Korean said in interviews that he was amazed by the fan support in Stockholm. He even went as far to say that he wished that GSL was played in Sweden.

- "I just came from a fan meeting and I felt like I was a famous actor," he wrote on his Twitter account.

The charismatic Ukrainian White-Ra seemed to be in good spirit despite the loss in he graind final. The much lovable "Grandpa Toss" said in a pre-match interview that he does not really care if he wins the final or not, as the community's support is worth more than the money. The statement reached into the heart of many, and the crowd cheered even higher when he said it. And as the prize pool was designed as a 'winner takes all', he will have to settle with just that.
