NTT returns to competitive scene, joins Serious Gaming

Posted by Patrik "Raistlin" Hellstrand 1 year ago
Jacob "NTT" Scharn is a legend. He is one of the few non-Koreans to have ever won a medal in World Cyber Games. But due to a lackluster professional scene outside Korea he retired from competitive gaming. Now he returns for StarCraft 2, by joining the Dutch organization Serious Gaming.

NTT, bronze medalist in StarCraft: Brood War at the World Cyber Games Challenge back in 2000, quickly made a name of himself during the StarCraft 2 beta already, and is now one of the top ranked players on the European server.

The Dutch Terran player brings up Robertson Davies' written piece that says "the world is full of people whose notion of a satisfactory future is, infact, a return to the idealized past" and considers himself as one of those people.

- "I've certainly idealized the time I spent playing Brood War. Hopefully I'll be able to achieve a level of skill high enough to compete with the best in the world and recapture some of my lost gaming glory. On my path to gaming excellence I plan on bringing success, acclaim and ultimately great riches to Serious Gaming," says NTT on the team's web page.

The said philosophy of Serious Gaming is converting young players into champions, which places the seasoned RTS gamer in some of a "teacher" role, despite the new game.

- "Having someone in the team that is still eager ten years after his first successes should be a inspiration to the entire team and will hopefully have a positive impact on everyone," says team manager Jos "Zerter" Buijvoets.

Jacob "NTT Scharn's two biggest achievements should feature the third place at World Cyber Games Challenege and placing Top 16 in the third season of the Battle.net ladder.

He also played under the nickname Hasudrone, but for the Koreans he is more known as 하수드론.

NTT was one of the players who back in the day relied heavily on macro management, known for making an insane number of SCVs.

NTT was by far one of the most fun players to watch replays of in my opinion. His play was just insanely weird sometimes and very creative. Didn't he also always quit the game at start if he spawned at 6 on LT (before the map was fixed)? That was just hilarious :D

FYI for those of you who havent heard of him. Your probably too young but during the early days of starcraft where guys like grrr.. and all the cop guys like pillars etc, and agent911, tillerman everlast were playing, NTT was always in the mix. Infact, at one point he was probably considered top foreigner. An example of a crazy strat he created was pvz nexus before pylon then 5 gate zealots to hold off ling rush... very creative.

This is great news. It was so fun to watch Hasudrone's replays. Defeated a bunch of Korean Progamers. ah and, how can some have "been here from the beginning" and never heard of NTT ?

Bingbong, I remember a picture from a channel. A random guy asked ntt for a 1v1. and ntt replied with; sure go make. The other guy made a game and waited in the game. meanwhile ntt was hanging in the channel typing something like: "haha, its so cute he actually think im going to join(or play him or smtn)"

If you haven't heard of NTT and have BW installed, go to Google and look up the NTT Replay pack (there's a decent sized one out there, I know, I have it on my other computer) and watch it. He was the BoxeR of non-Korean BW.

yes i also know this guy,,, a non-korean pro-gamer terran that can play with boxer back in 2000,,,

if you're really want to be good in the future, you also need to know the past,, i know this guy even back in 2000 i was just like 7 (borned: 1993)... i tell you,, this NTT guy is good

@lfunk: hi.

Someone told me about your comment and I felt compelled to create an account and reply. I never map hacked against PJ. In fact, I don't even really know who PJ is. I can't say with absolute certainty that I never played him, what I can say with absolute certainty however, is that I never map hacked against anyone, and therefore not against PJ either.

To clarify, I quit playing Brood War in 2001/2002. Any game played more recently under any of my aliases (hasudrone, NTT, etc) are fake.
