Renegades, Immortals undefeated after three days at NGE Winter Premiere, FaZe struggles

The runner-ups of MLG Vegas aren’t performing to expectations.

It hasn’t been a week since the roster behind star player Liam “Mangachu” Campbell got picked up by Renegades and the team is already making waves in the new year. The former line-up of Kingdom Esports is all but guaranteed to advance to the second group stage of the NGE Winter Premiere as they’re yet to lose a match.

Renegades have been particularly dominant in their run during the first three days of the tournament. Right off the bat, they were matched with the silver medalists from MLG Vegas FaZe Clan only to blank George “Shadowburn” Gushcha and co to open the main event. Renegades proceeded to not drop a single map in their next games and currently sit undefeated at 4-0 in series and 8-0 in maps.

FaZe themselves struggled as the group stage progressed. Although they evened their score by winning against CompLexity in three games, the favorites proceeded to drop the next series against Liquid, putting them at 1-2 and in the bottom half of the current standings. Playing Luminosity Gaming next on January 11 thus comes as a landmark test for the Vegas runner-ups as a 1-3 score will threaten a possible elimination and a major upset.

Undefeated side by side with Renegades stand Immortals, winners of the “Most promising team for 2017” in our inaugural GosuAwards. Home of star DPS player Brady “Agilities” Girardi and D.Va specialist George “Hyped” Maganzini, Immortals has been steadily improving and Winter Premiere could be their potential break-out. Either way, the undefeated streaks of one of those teams will end next week as the two will play each on January 11 to see who tops the rankings.
