Wickd sets TwitchTV records

Mike 'Wickd' Peterson hits TwitchTV records for highest concurrent viewers for a single person topping at 137,769 viewers.

wickd_side.jpgLast week, there was such a small disparity between top place votes regarding who would compete in the LCS All-Stars Tournament that Wickd faced off against Fnatic's top laner sOAZ in a 1v1 bo5 to determine who should participate. In turn, this was able to spark as a spectacle and generate an amount of viewers that could compete with LCS viewership.

Statement from Wickd to GameSpot regarding the matter:
"I did expect that we'd get quite a lot of people watching, probably somewhere around 50-70,000," but almost 140,000 concurrent viewers just blew my mind. I definitely did not expect that many to tune in, but I'm happy they all loved it and that just shows how awesome our community truly is. The thing is that there's a lot on the line and it's something that no one have ever done before. It was a incredibye important match for both me and Soaz because of pride."

Eventually, sOAZ managed to become the victor and take over for the spot to the tournament, but Wickd found quite an accomplishment of his own. At the dawn of League of Legends streaming in late 2009 to early 2010, HotshotGG broke records by surpassing 5,000 live viewers, whereas now we are approaching viewership for individuals 4-6 times higher on a regular basis.
