Grubby defending ESWC title

[s]event_200[/s]

News coming about Electronic Sports World Cup 2006 - Grubby will defend his title autoberthed, and the national spots have been announced, as well as the official maps.

A couple of days ago ESWC announced the previous champions will receive autoberth and will defend their title this year. This means that 4K.Grubby will be defending his title for sure. Additionally the Netherlands will have two more spots in the tournament, making Netherlands the most represented country in ESWC 2006.

ESWC also announced the number of slots for each nation participating not too long ago. As of right now there are 55 additional spots to be filled except for the defending champion. Some countries only have one spot, and some are lucky to have two. This is not something that the ESWC administrators have fixed up by themselves, it is a sponsor issue. As Zerter writes at » WCReplays, "the amount of particapants (if any) depends on the sponsor climate of individual nations and the regard the national partners have for Warcraft 3."

With this nation spot list, it looks to be a tournament with a bit of skill differences. Considered the best nation in WarCraft 3 - South Korea, did indeed get two spots, however for example Sweden, Germany and United States only have one spot. Although it says that modifications may occur with the amount of slots per preliminary, so things might change for the better good for some nations that have fewer spots than others.

And last but not least, the official maps for ESWC 2006 in WarCraft 3: The Frozen Throne are Terenas Stand, Lost Temple, Twisted Meadows, Echo Isles and Turtle Rock.
