EU Championship Day 1 - The upsets

We go over some of the more surprising results from day 1 of the European Road to Blizzcon Championship, and what rode the underdog teams to victory.?

Day 1 of the Heroes European Championship came to a close today, and with it, a slew of incredible matches. With so many powerful teams fighting for the spots to Blizzcon, it was invigorating to see some of the underdogs come out in full force.

Dignitas vs Na'Vi

Europe’s newest juggernaut is Dignitas, formerly Bob?. They have been showing their prowess in the Nexus over the past couple competitions, taking out everyone in their path. However, they seemed to meet their match today against NaVi. While most expected this game to be an easy victory for Dignitas, Na'Vi closed the match in 2-0 victory. Their heavy emphasis on a melee assassin gank strategies took Dignitas by surprise and was enough to win the games decisively

In game one, Butcher, Uther, and Anub’arak’s stun train led them to victory. In game two, a similar composition of Kerrigan, Uther, and Anub’arak kept that train rolling. With backup ranged damage in the form of Falstad and Sylvanas, NaVi seemed unstoppable. Na'Vi fans can only hope that they will continue to roll with this momentum going forward in day two.

Virtus.Pro vs Team ROCCAT

The other major upset of the day was between Virtus.Pro and Team ROCCAT.  Virtus.Pro was favored in this matchup, but the series ended up being very close. ROCCAT ended up taking a close 2-1 victory. They let Zeratul slide through the ban phases, and Virtus.Pro took advantage of this in all three games. ROCCAT seemed prepared for this, as their unique hero pool (including Tassadar) and superior map control secured their victory.
