Increased death timers in PTR: Blizzard wants to make "individual players feel a bit stronger"

Blizzard has implemented a test map available on the PTR to investigate increased early game death timers. This is something Alpha players have been requesting since the games inception and, if implemented, will change the game as we know it.

Citing a well known "difficulty in achieving objectives in the early game due to our death timers" and the speed in which "players can get back into a fight", Blizzard has unveiled it's latest plan to make Heroes of the Storm the best game it can be. The above image is the tentative plan on a potential change to early game death timers.

I could of swore you respawn faster than 9 seconds at level 1 in the games current state, so it's surprising to see the potentially new death timer for that same level could be a whopping 15 seconds. If this ever makes it out of the PTR, the game will change dramatically. Aggressive early game strategies will become more effective, while at the same time become more risky to execute. Death timers seem like a subtle thing to change, but it is really a big picture move that will change the way players play every single battle ground.

Haunted mines will likely become even more snowbally for the team that gets an early game kill, and you can bet that infinite skirmishes over early Cursed Hallow shrines won't exist if these changes go live.

Snowball Prevention

On top of these changes, Blizzard is also "flattening out" the stat differences between early levels to make them more resemble late game hero strength. As it stands now, the difference between level 7 and level 9 feels much larger than the difference between levels 17 and 19. These changes will remove that difference. In addition, Blizzard will also be taking the additional stats you gain from leveling and "directly ingrained the numbers straight into the heroes themselves".

The result? Heroes that feel more like their intended role. The Blizzard example is that Assassins will feel squishier, but at the same time do more damage at early levels of the game.

You can try out these changes on the PTR by playing a custom game using the map labeled "Cursed Hollow- Scaling Test". You can also just  wait until October 6th when this same map will be available on the live Heroes client.

A test map, labeled "Cursed Hollow - Scaling Test",  will be available with the PTR immediately and in the regular Heroes client for a limited time, under the Custom Games section,  on October 6th, 2015, allowing players wishing to provide feedback to do so.
