Golden League launched in China: "expect to see hero releases drastically increase"

Heroes of the Storm Golden League was launched today (May31st). As part of the launch, the organizers interviewed Blizzard game designers John Hodgson and Matthew Cooper as well.

It’s being billed as the battle of Asia. Domestic Chinese champions eStar and Edward Gaming will be participating against South Korea’s Team No Limit and Taiwan’s AHQ. With almost all of the top Chinese teams, and some of the best South Korean and Taiwanese teams, Golden League will be a barometer of the rankings in the Asian scene.

The Golden League will feature teams from China, Taiwan and South Korea. The online qualifiers just finished and will feature a total of sixteen teams. There were eight direct invites (four from China and South Korea/Taiwan respectively) and a qualifying stage was held to determine the remaining teams.

The tournament will have a group stage with four groups, BO3, double elimination structure. The top two teams will then proceed to the Quarterfinals which will also be a seeded Bo3 double elimination. The Grand Finals will be BO7 with the winner’s bracket champion carrying a 1:0 advantage.

In preparation for the launch, John Hodgson and Matthew Cooper from Blizzard sat down to answer some questions and share some thoughts on the future. Two key bits of information were revealed in the interview: The Diablo-themed map is so very close to being released, and we can expect to see hero releases drastically increase to a rate of two every six weeks.

Otherwise they didn't reveal too much information. But we can expect to see a Starcraft Warrior class hero, and they’re happy where Kael'thas is from a balance perspective.
