The NA super team took their first team league championship last weekend. This is what they played to beat Team Liquid in the finals.
ESL Trinity Series is the premier team league in current day Hearthstone, but other tournament organizers are also trying to explore that space. Battle of the Best, a brand which organized a handful of minor invitationals in 2014 returned last weekend after a two-year hiatus with an eight-team team league.
Even though the prize pool was relatively small, a lot of big names took part in the tournament, including the line-ups of G2 Esports, Team Liquid, Tempo Storm and Luminosity Gaming. The two-day event also offered a slight twist to traditional team league formats: The three players on a team would divide nine decks between them and then ban one deck per each opponent, instead of just banning classes off the bat.
The strategy of Luminosity Gaming—who ended up champions after a relatively unopposed playoffs run—was to stack the Tier 1 decks on one player to prevent being banned out of the top classes in the current meta. Other teams also followed that philosophy and with no self-exclusion allowed, Hunters also got to see the light of day.

LG’s deck line-up would not surprise many. The Americans stuck to tried and true builds, including their new favorite Tempo Mage, and chose to play a N’Zoth Hunter for their Rexxar slot. With the line-up shown below, LG performed a surgical rush through the bracket with 6-2, 6-4, 6-2, making a strong statement for being one of the very best Hearthstone teams in operation.
Luminosity’s next team league challenge will be their match against compLexity in Trinity Series on Thursday, Feb. 2, with both parties undefeated.
