Hearthstone with an $18,000 tournament at KeSPA cup

Korea’s best players will fight for the title next month.

After developing successful scenes for League of Legends and especially StarCraft over the years, the Korean Esports Association has turned its eyes to Hearthstone. On December 12-14, eight of Korea’s finest competitors, including Blizzcon finalists Cheon-Su “Che0nsu” Kim and Sang-Hyeon “DDaHyoNi” Baek will come together in a short invitational at the NEXON Arena in Seoul.

This will be the first time KeSPA will be involved with Hearthstone, despite the game being popular in Korea for couple of years and developing a strong competitive scene. Premier broadcast network OGN finished its fifth Korea Masters season in May and the circuit has been instrumental to the rise to power of names such as Jung-Soo “Surrender” Kim, the country’s best player of 2015, and his former All-Killers team-mate Han-Seul “Seulsiho” Jung. Although neither of the two have been invited to participate in the tournament in question, other veterans of the local scene including Jongh-Chul “Caster” Park, Hyun-Soo “Flurry” Cho and Soo-Kwang “Ghost” Park will make an appearance.

The information currently known about the KeSPA Hearthstone cup includes the list of players and the tournament structure – double elimination groups feeding into single elimination group stage. The prize pool has been set to 21M KRW, approximately $18,000.
