The Reynad-led trio came back from near-elimination to repeat their championship.
The trio of Andrey “Reynad” Yanyuk, Hayun “Eloise” Tang and Victor “Vlps” Lopez rallied to defend their Red Bull Team Brawl title on Saturday. The Tempo Storm gang lost two of its three games in the round robin stage and qualified for the playoffs by the skin of their teeth, having a better tiebreaker score against the powerhouse roster of Cloud 9 and the mix-matched team of Brian Kibler, featuring arena veteran Rumay “Hafu” Wang and Pro Tour champion Tom Martell, a colleague of Kibler’s from the Magic: The Gathering scene.
The tournament itself made no change to their original format: 240 cards were generated via a sealed-draft software and given to each team to construct three separate decks. During matches, all players on a team would sit next to each other and think and play as one.
In the grand finals, Tempo Storm met their opponents from the inaugural edition of the tournament, Team Liquid. The blue horseheads had gone undefeated in the group stage but couldn’t turn around a two-game deficit, which led to the repeat championship of Tempo.
Once again, the victors will split a $3,000 prize pool.
