Main storylines

Luminosity on the attack

The main storyline during this weekend’s Last Call AM will be how far can Luminosity’s guys go.

LG has overnight become the top team in the Americas and very possibly the best in the world, too, or at least very, very close to Virtus.pro. They’ve been kicking ass wherever they went, but one tournament has been eluding them thus far: Blizzcon. Now, with Muzahidul “Muzzy” Islam and Frank “Fr0zen” Zhang in attendance, this is LG’s biggest shot at a seed at worlds.

Now, if that was any other tournament, Muzzy and Fr0zen would be almost uncontested favorites, but this is Last Call we’re talking about, meaning six other HCT grinders will be there, ready to give LG’s guys a fight. Out of all the Last Calls this month, Americas’ is likely the hardest to predict.

Repeat appearances

Only a handful of players have earned a repeat HCT appearance this year. In Europe, those were Artem “DrHippi” Kravets and George “Georgec” Connoly, the former of which is already through to the world finals. In APAC, we saw Il-Mook “Handsomeguy” Kang’s historic three-in-a-row run, and in China, “JasonZhou” showcased why he’s potentially the strongest player in his country.

In Americas, the names who made it to repeat HCT events are still up and comers: Chris “Chessdude” Gu and Robert “Nostam” Matson. Chessdude and Nostam both appeared at the Winter Championship. Both made it through the group stages, only to play each other in the round of four. There, Chessdude fell to Nostam, only to see him lose the grand final against Will “Amnesiac” Barton.

Now, the bracket is seeded in such way that it guarantees the two can only meet in the grand finals, and won’t that be some revenge story?
