Post-nerf decklist spotlight: Thijs’ Charge Control Warrior

Start armoring up with a revised Control Warrior list from one of Hearthstone’s best players.

The recent balance patch hit a total of seven cards, including two Warrior tools: Their go-to removal [card]execute[/card], now up to two mana, and [card]charge[/card] – the enabler for the very specific OTK Worgen deck.

While the nerf to Execute is strongly felt in more aggressive builds like Dragon where squeezing in a one-mana tempo removal is of utmost importance, Control Warriors can still freely operate with the card up to 2 mana, as they’re used to floating resources on the majority of the turns. Thijs’ list, linked in this article, continues to take advantage of Execute’s power level (even though it’s just a one-of now), and uses the free spot to include the new [card]Charge[/card].

So, why Charge you’d ask? Isn’t the card worse now?

Yes and no. While one turn kills are no longer possible, Charge is still a rule-breaking mechanic of sorts that allows a minion to attack the same turn it has entered play. In control lists like this one, it’s a form of removal as the majority of minions the deck runs are heavy in stats: [card]Harrison Jones[/card], [card]Justicar Trueheart[/card], [card]Alexstrasza[/card], etc. Perhaps the best case scenario is combining Charge with [card]Sylvanas Windrunner[/card] to kill a minion and still another, generating a major tempo swing.

Give the list a try next time you’re grinding the ladder and find more decks from top Hearthstone players in our deck library.
