Thailand victory wraps up the spring season of GosuCup SEA

Endmyturn prevailed over Infernity from Vietnam to take the last $300 for the season.

One could argue that some of the previous GosuCup winners have had relatively easier paths to their victory, but that can’t be said for Endmyturn. Last Sunday, the Thai player was thrown into a battle with some of SEA’s most proven names, having to meet and defeat 2015 Blizzcon finalist Neilyo as early as round 2. Next on the line were Filipino star Ozzywcg, Indonesian veteran VanillaT and finally Vietnam’s old-timer Infernity, who gave Endmyturn a tough run for his money in the grand finals.

This is the first championship for Thailand in GosuCup this year and one of only two top four finishes. The country is still catching up to the leaders from the Philippines and Vietnam in the nation standings, but Endmyturn’s victory should serve as additional motivation for his countrymen in subsequent seasons.

GosuCup SEA #6 standings

1. Thailand Endmyturn - $300 + 3 HCT points
2. Vietnam Infernity - $150 + 2 HCT points
3. Philippines DigitalJoe - $50 + 1 HCT point
4. Singapore 1123630728 – 1 HCT point
5-8. Singapore Xieqifang
5-8. Philippines Gromhell12
5-8. Indonesia VanillaT
5-8. Indonesia Faissalord

Speaking of country standings, the Philippines comfortably took the top spot with 30 points. With two winners and representatives in the top four in five of the six cups, the country occupies the throne for two seasons in a row now, having also won the race in GosuCup SEA 2015.

Vietnam and GosuCup newcomers South Korea complete the top three. The Koreans had a great start, taking silver in Cup #1 and winning Cup #2 but their advancement was held in subsequent tournaments by the SEA locals and they never placed top 4 again.

A nice surprise is the fourth place finish for Indonesia and fifth place for Thailand. Both countries struggled in 2015 and were way behind the leaders of the region but this time around, they even managed to push down 2015 runners up Singapore.

GosuCup SEA Spring nation standings

1. Philippines Philippines – 30 points
2. Vietnam Vietnam – 21 points
3. Korea South Korea – 13 points
4. Indonesia Indonesia – 12 points
5. Thailand Thailand – 11 points
6. Singapore Singapore – 10 points
7. India India – 7 points
8. Malaysia Malaysia – 4 points
