Blizzcon might be over and the new expansion might be upon us, but a lot of what the best players in the world used is still relevant.
The metagame at Blizzcon was incredibly diverse. All nine classes were brought by the sixteen players, and all nine classes survived the group stage play. As the playoffs progressed, some decks naturally got eliminated, but there was still a lot of diversity in the final four.
Seven of the nine classes were represented at the semi finals, with Shaman and Hunter barely missing it. That subset of decks was by itself surprising if we were to look at metagame predictions just after the Patron nerf. Midrange Paladin was there, while Secrets Paladin was not. Patron Warrior was still showing strength and was overall more dominant than Control. In the hands of ThijsNL, the anti-aggro Dragon Priest almost qualified him for the finals. And Oil Rogue was having the time of its life, being played by both grand finalists.
In a throwback to the biggest event of the year, here’s what the four best players on that stage played.
Ostkaka: Oil Rogue • Freeze Mage • Patron Warrior
Hotform: Tempo Mage • Oil Rogue • Midrange Druid
ThijsNL: Freeze Mage • Dragon Priest • Patron Warrior
Kno: Midrange Paladin • Midrange Druid • Zoolock
