Deck Spotlight: The Malygos Warlock

Everyone wants to see Dragon decks and players like Neirea and MrYagut are trying to make it happen with a class you probably did not expect.

As Blackrock Mountain was getting announced and later spoiled, Blizzard were audibly saying with the new cards that they want us to play more dragons. Players like Brian Kibler were probably ecstatic.

But as the dragons finally came and people started experimenting, the results were … disappointing. The much hyped [card]Dragon Consort[/card] couldn’t carry a competitively viable Paladin dragon tribal. Tempo Rogues also gave it a try, but the attempts were also futile.

Then, one of the first successful attempts at a dragon control deck appeared. Famous for his innovative deckbuilding, Drew “TidesofTime” Biessener brought his Dragon Control Warrior to several tournaments and reaped success. Using cards like [card]Nefarian[/card] and even the supposedly trash [card]Revenge[/card], TidesofTime most recently took second at the HTC Invitational.

Now, pro players are attempting bringing the dragon tribal to another class – Warlock. The core of the deck is tempo. Cards like [card]Zombie Chow[/card], [card]Twilight Drake[/card], [card]Blackwing Technician[/card] and [card]Imp-losion[/card] ensure strong early and mid-game presence, outvalue-ing the opponent. As the deck enters the late game, it starts gathering power with [card]Blackwing Corruptor[/card] and eventually drops a potentially game ending [card]Malygos[/card]. How does 9 damage [card]Soulfire[/card]s and 8 damage [card]Darkbomb[/card]s and [card]Hellfire[/card]s sound?

Not bad indeed.
