Rdu wins WEC Europe qualifiers, Darkwonyx second

The Romanian youngster adds another high finish to his achievements list as he 4-1'd Darkwonyx last night to prove the best out of the eight European invites. He and the Swede are now qualified for the WEC grand finals in September.

Undefeated in the entire tournament, Rdu went 4-0 against Savjz, Gnimsh and Darkwonyx twice to once again prove he's one of the top players on the continent currently. Rdu's success in the WEC European qualifiers comes to top his DreamHack Summer championship run, his second place at WellPlayed Cup, a couple of weekly cup grand finals and top four finish at IEM Shenzhen, elevating his win-rate for the last two months to 77,47%.

Second behind the Romanian came Curse's Darkwonyx, whose only losses in the bracket was the Rdu himself. Darkwonyx started strong with a 3-2 against Kolento and another 3-2 against ThijsNL but couldn't find a way past MYM star. These are now the fourth and fifth times the Swede has been defeated by Rdu in their rivalrly, after 2-1 and 2-1 at Dreamhack Summer and 3-2 at WellPlayed Cup.

As a result of their victories, Rdu and Darkwonyx will travel to the WEC grand finals in China in September to compete for the $62,000 Hearthstone prize pool. With the slots for each region limited to two, their run left other notable names outside of the competition.

One such player was Cloud 9's Kolento. The Ukrainian ladder beast began the tournament with a 2-3 loss to Darkwonyx only to perform a heroic run through the losers bracket, ousting Ek0p, Gnimsh and Semijew with 3-2, 3-2 and 3-1 before falling short to the person who sent him to the losers bracket in the first place.
