Much like in the rest of the regions, day one of the Chinese qualifiers for The International 2017 closed with a couple of surprises.
VG J, who have been blessed with direct invites to several tournaments this year, including the latest Major, are perhaps the biggest disappointment so far in the Chinese qualifiers. They played five out of their nine games, with the only victory they registered coming versus their sister team, Vici Gaming, which places them on the last spot in the group at the end of day one and this can potentially cost them everything in terms of qualifying to TI 7.
Another unpleasant surprise are EHOME who, despite having two of the ex Wings Gaming players (TI 6 Champions), have ended day one second to last team in the group with 2 wins and 3 losses. However, judging on how the results look like from the 3rd to 9th place in the group, EHOME have a good chance to strike back on the second day.
Apart from LGD Gaming who took a decent advantage already with four victories and only one loss on day one, the second to fourth places are occupied by CDEC, IG Vitality and FTD Club A, all with 3 wins and 2 losses.
Note that at the moment of publishing this article, the second day of Chinese qualifiers has already started and LGD lost their first match of the day, against EHOME.Keen. However they still hold the group leadership. By the end of today matches we will know who is the first Chinese qualified team to The International 2017 and who will be the four squads advancing in the second phase of qualifiers.
Chinese qualifiers format:
Phase one:
10 teams - Round Robin group, bo1
1st place qualify to TI 7
2nd to 5th place advance to phase two
Phase two:
4 teams - GSL bracket, bo3 series
Upper Bracket winners qualify to TI 7
Lower Bracket winners qualify to TI 7
