Newbee are one series away from a DAC 2017 Grand Finals spot

iG Vitality’s incredible run through the lower bracket of Dota 2 Asia Championships was stopped by Newbee.

Newbee had an amazing penultimate day at DAC 2017, claiming two valuable victories. They opened the games in the Shanghai Oriental Sports Center with a hard fought series against Evil Geniuses, and closed day three by defeating iG Vitality with two surgically executed team fights.

Game One:

The first game of the series looked uncertain for Newbee as their opponents went with more of a reactive draft, countering one pick after the other, up to a last Timbersaw choice for the Solo Mid Champion, Zhang 'Paparazi' Chengjun against Song 'Sccc' Chun’s Alchemist in the mid lane.  With an extremely aggressive line-up, iG Vitality drew the first blood only a minute into the game, all the action happening in the top lane where iG V’s supports Earth Spirit and Disruptor were trying to secure a smooth farming stage for Xu 'Sakata' Zichen. Bullied out of his lane, Damien 'kpii' Chok had to search his farm in the jungle and quite the same thing happened to Alchemist who was not able to cope with Timbersaw’s harass.

In spite of all their efforts to create a decent lead in the early game stage, iG Vitality lost track of the Alchemist farm and although they had a 10 minute Blink Dagger on the Batrider, they couldn’t find the kills they wanted. Newbee’s superior vision and continuous scouting with the Monkey King-Tree Dance gave them enough time to finish the Radiance on the Alchemist and gear up for the big team fights. The only Aghanim's Scepter gift from Sccc went to the Weaver, which meant an easy high ground push for Newbee who claimed the game one just around the 40 minute mark.

Game Two:

The second and last match between the two Chinese squads witnessed an uncharacteristic pick for the current meta from Newbee, namely a Sven carry which was immediately countered by iG V with a last pick Tinker. Although none of the panelists or casters gave Newbee a chance with the carry Sven, Xu 'uuu9' Han and his team proved everyone wrong. Newbee’s line-up was a mix of control and big spells, all complimented by a Monkey King support and an offlane Radiance Abaddon. The game went surprisingly one sided in Newbee’s favor even from the early stages, and despite the fact that the high ground push looked like a tough endeavour in theory, they made it work by sending Abaddon in the front line with an Aegis in his inventory.

Newbee is now only a series away from a possible grand finals battle against OG. The lower bracket final will take place tomorrow, April 4th at 06:00 CEST with Newbee taking on the main IG squad.
