Wagamama organizes Dota 2 summer camp for amateurs

Sweden will host a Dota 2 training camp this summer where amateur players will be coached by professionals.

Are you undecided how to spend this summer? Have you ever thought of a vacation that involves playing, learning, and living Dota 2 with big players? Niklas "Wagamama" Högström brings great news for the Dota 2 amateurs! Along with a great team of coaches, Waga will hold the first Dota 2 training camp this summer. The Dota 2 training camp will open its doors from the 4th to 10th of June promising to "up your game" no matter what level you are. Those interested in attending Waga’s training camp can register with a stack of players or individually. The groups will be divided into five members each, with team and individual activities and competitions planned for the duration of the six day adventure.

The chosen location is the idyllic Alvesta in the south of Sweden, campers being accommodated close to the town, in a large cottage facing a lake and fitted with a swimming area, a barbeque area, a beach volleyball court and a soccer field. While this would be enough for the average camp, a Dota 2 player is more interested in its gaming related facilities. The camp lodge is equipped with 1000Mbps of fiber optics internet and computers. It will also have an HTC vive for the campers to experience some virtual reality and some retro gaming consoles for those who enjoy a blast from the past. So, the camp will not only be a great Dota 2 training opportunity, but it’s surely going to be a pleasant and friendly experience.

The project manager, Annelie Högström Andersson, is a beach volleyball player who has, as the website quotes, ‘‘no experience whatsoever in Dota 2’’. While this decision may seem peculiar at first, bringing a competitive athlete in a team sport may very well be a great choice, as her expertise in teamwork and dedication would make her a great instructor.

Commentating on the Dota 2 training camp project, Annelie Högström Andersson said:

In any sport, I think, to become one of the best you need to have the opportunity to train with the best. That’s what I want to provide with this training camp.

The camp also hired an esteemed team of coaches, lead by head coach Niklas "Wagamama" Högström. With an 8k MMR and tremendous success with heroes such as Templar Assassin, the 28yo swede would be a great sensei for the pupils and will use his experience to hand pick other skilled coaches to create the training schedule for the camp. The coaches confirmed so far are: Mathis "Jabbz" Friesel , Jamal “Blazemon” Sohail, Håkan "Levkan" Molnar, Daniel "Stormstormer" Schoetzau, and Tobias "Vroksank" Axelsson, covering all Dota 2 positions and a minimum MMR of 7K. The camp’s website also hinted that other coaches may pop-in, such as Alliance's Jonas "Jonassomfan" Lindholm, former No Logic Gaming's Milan "MiLAN" Kozomara, and the TI champion Alliance's Jonathan "Loda" Berg.

If you are interested in this camp, hurry up and book your bunk from the Dota 2 training camp official website. You will be required to pay a 10% deposit within 10 days of booking and can pay the rest one month before the camp begins. The camp average age till now is 26 years old, but the website also pointed out that they are handicap friendly and will insure that all different types of players can enjoy the six day training.
