Rumor: mTw to make a return?

?

UPDATE 16.09.2013: Readmore.de give update on the mTw story, pointing out that organization's domain now belongs to a media agency from Hamburg, while the brand rights are still with mTw's former management.

As reported earlier this month (see the text below as written on September 12th, 2013), hints of mTw possibly making a return after closing doors in January surfaced the Internet as the site mymTw.de said "Under construction".

Until now, no additional information around the rumors was disclosed. Today, Readmore.de reported that the ownership of the mymTw.de and the brand rights for mTw itself belong to different parties.

"In June this year, the owner of mTw [Lars Eiben] started to slowly but surely sell the domains he had acquired throughout the years" reads the post on Readmore. "On June 11th, the main domain of mymmtw.de was finally taken over by a Hamburg-based agency. The owner would nevertheless not part with the brand rights, however, so it is still questionable on whether or not mTw will return."

GosuGamers.net has tried to reach out to Lars Eiben for comment, but we've received no answer as of yet.

A recent post at Cadred.org indicates that one of the oldest organizations in eSports Mortal Teamwork or mTw might become operational once again after it shut down this January.

Founded in 1998, mTw was until this year an eSports organization with one of the richest histories in the scene. Although mostly known for their Counter Strike 1.6 line-up, mTw also ventured into more contemporary disciplines, opening a StarCraft 2 division in July 2010 with Dmytro "Dimaga" Filipchuk the sole player at that time. As time passed, mTw's StarCraft 2 roster say a plethora of big names passing through it, including players like DeMuslim, NightEnd, TT1 and Supernova.

In December 2011, mTw tipped their toe into Dota 2 as well as the winners of DreamHack Winter '11 - SyndereN's Wild Honey Badgers - donned the red of the German-based organization. Before 2012 was over, mTw would win TI 2's Western Qualifier (3:1 over NEXT.kz), DreamHack Summer 2012 (2:1 over Na`Vi), GosuLeague Season 2 (with 11 wins and 3 losses) and The Premier League Masters (2:0 over Na`Vi).

In January 2013, after 15 years of existence and as a result of financial troubles, mTw shut doors, the official statement saying that "running a sustainable and stable business under [those] circumstances was not possible anymore". The same post, however, stated that "as soon as [the organization] can guarantee a sustainable existence is possible and we can offer the teams the support they deserve, mTw will come back" and this might indeed be coming true, according to a newspost on Cadred.org.

The source points out that mTw's official website - namely mymTw.de - is labeled "Under Construction". The Steam group of mTw further has mymTw.com as sub-title which leads to the same words. If those are indeed hints towards a possible rebirth of mTw, eSports would be happy to welcome one of the richest on traditions organizations it has ever seen.

GosuGamers.net has reached out to the persons previously engaged with mTw in attempt to acquire more information and we'll hopefully be able to bring you more information on mTw's possible reincarnation soon.
