DreamHack Summer prize pools revealed

The StarCraft, WarCraft 3 and DotA tournaments at DreamHack Summer 2008 has 11,000 SEK more in prize money compared to last winter.

GosuGamers can, as the official tournament partners for DreamHack, be the first to announce the prize money for StarCraft, WarCraft 3 and DotA.

StarCraft remains at the same prize money level as last year, 20,000 SEK. The WarCraft 3 and DotA tournaments on the other hand, have received a slight buff. The WarCraft 3 tournament is up at 33,000 SEK, and DotA 43,000 SEK. All in all, the prize money for the three Blizzard games have been increased with 11,000 SEK.

DreamHack Summer 2008 caps off on 14th of June and lasts until 17th of June.

Apart from these three tournaments the Swedish ESWC qualifier for WarCraft 3 will be held which is also held by GosuGamers.

More information on the maps and time schedule will be revealed soon.

You would think with as many participants as they get they would put more money into it, you would think because of sponsors seeing such a large concentration of gamers in one area they would be throwing money at this event to make it a success and in turn raise profits.

Thus allowing a larger prize pot. Oh well, it did go up so I guess my complaints aren't even valid (rolls eyes).

Still nice to see though. I know Grubby is going for wc3, I wonder who else is going. Would be nice to see some new faces to be honest.

And why wouldn't Haypro be allowed to play? He is the defending champ.

Nope, just divide the Dota prize by 5-8 (depending on how many benchwarmers) and it would be around 389-574 Euro's per player, while SC and WC3 are individual winner and not team win.
So the reason why the dota prices seem high. CS and other Team games would also have higher price then individual games like WC3 and SC.

Can't believe the morons in here, there is no logic in giving the same amount of money to 1v1 tournament and a 5v5 tournament. Ofc if it's a 5v5 tournament the prize money will be bigger, but the prize money is divided by 5 which is ~574€ (roughly 4 times LESS than the Warcraft 3 1v1). And if it's a 1v1 tournament the player gets all the money for himself.

So to all the "Dota has the biggest prize omg omg". Please think what you post and while you're with it use your brain, or you can always go play DotA...

well i understand dota prizes and it's not that big really but its high as a custom map

but interesting point is that starcraft prize is much lower (about 50%) than wc3
is there this difference in popularity ?

offline Dota events have always been around that price. Regarding the popularity of SC and WC3 I think WC3 is bigger then SC in Sweden. But I wouldn't know much of that since I follow the European scene in general.

If it is only noobies and Trek and the other guy will be in finals, like HackprO says it will be, then I think yes. But all should be allowed to use Oblivion with mineral hack and autosplit and maphack enabled to be fair... and only zvz, ok?

i think the dota price its good since its 5v5. but why WC3 why its higher than sc.

WC3 games make me wanna go my bed and sleep.
