WCG Sweden: ElakeDuck > GLaiVe 2-1

[s]event_223[/s]

Late yesterday, ElakeDuck and GLaiVe qualified for the final of WCG Sweden. After an intense group stage with tiebreaker in Group A, the players were tired as the second semi final was played at 01:00.

The matches started yesterday with the group stage where two players from each were to advance to the playoffs. In Group B, ElakeDuck and LiiLD.C advanced after them both beating Anty and Skoth and ElakeDuck defeating LiiLD.C.

A tiebreaker to determine Group A

In Group A it turned out to be a tougher task to determine the Top 2. The replacer xynox (replacing SunShinE) had a rough day, losing all his matches. The other three players though were all playing very strong. FuRy defeated Tharkas, Tharkas defeated GLaiVe while GLaiVe defeated FuRy. A tiebreaker then. We started with Tharkas versus FuRy, a match ending 2-1 to Tharkas. Then FuRy took on GLaiVe, and was defeated once again - the reigning champion's out. After that, Tharkas and GLaiVe played to determine the first and second seed. GLaiVe won 2-0, and the semi finals was about to begin.

ElakeDuck and Tharkas started, and was first interviewed by Swedish television where they got to express their feelings before the match, give the media some information about them and so on. We got to know that Tharkas had stolen his nickname for six years ago from another player. ElakeDuck said that he was quite confident and found it pretty natural that he was considered the favourite.

What many thought in the start that Elakeduck were to defeat Tharkas fairly easy proved wrong, as Tharkas took the second game and tied 1-1. The last game was a real nailbiter, where Tharkas was only kept alive in the end with a scout tower. But due to a nice manouver by ElakeDuck he lured Tharkas' units away and moved in with his Raiders and won the match.

GLaiVe: I feel confident in Night Elf vs. Night Elf

We had to wait for the second semi final to start as a Counter-Strike match had to be played in between. After numerous hours GLaiVe and LiiLD.C were ordered to play a game "inofficially", which meant not on stage. A very close game but with GLaiVe coming out on top. Then they were interviewed as well. GLaiVe said that he felt confident in the Night Elf vs. Night Elf matchup, but that LiiLD.C was a strong opponent and did not really have any weaknesses. He also said that they had faced eachother a lot before. LiiLD.C said the same, and we were all hoping for a great game on stage.

At 01:00, the Counter-Strike match was done, and the players got up on stage and installed themselves. And in a long, long Night Elf mirror match we got to see both players going Demon Hunter and Naga Sea Witch along with Archers and Ancients of War, with Talons on top. After about 40 minutes later GLaiVe managed to take home the second game, and was qualified for the Grand Final, facing ElakeDuck.
