Neilyo becomes the first double champion of GosuCup 2015

Lan “Neilyo” Tran has done it again. The young Vietnamese player is the first one to win two GosuCup SEA tournament for the new season.

Historically, the GosuCup tournaments haven’t had many repeat champions. Since tournament’s inception in early 2014 for the European server and its later migration over to SEA, only one out of thousands of players has managed to do it. That player’s name is Dustin “WaningMoon” Mangulabnan, a Hearthstone veteran from the Philippines who in January this year achieved a GosuCup hat-trick.

Now, another Southeast Asian player is on his way to this success. Lan “Neilyo” Tran – winner of GosuCup #4 – returned this Saturday with another sweeping victory over his opponent. In what’s now a GosuCup classic rivalry between the Philippines and Vietnam, Neilyo 3-1’d Rey “Tope” Acosta, taking advantage of several of Filipino’s mistakes throughout the series.

Neilyo’s acquisition of another 20 World Championship points – alongside the $300 first place prize, of course – puts him in good position for the regional Blizzcon qualifiers. He’s certainly making Vietnam proud, defining it once again as one of the strongest country in the region.

1. Vietnam Neilyo - $300 + 20 HWC points
2. Philippines Tope - $100 + 10 HWC points
3-4. Singapore Plaatinum - $50 + 5 HWC points
3-4. Philippines Pompi - $50 + 5 HWC points
5-8. Singapore Shoomsboiboi – 1 HWC point
5-8. Singapore ElleWhyJay – 1 HWC point
5-8. Vietnam zGGLeoz – 1 HWC point
5-8. Singapore Staroflight – 1 HWC point

In the nation standings, the Philippines would not let go of their first place. Tope’s and Pompi’s second and top four finishes, respectively, added good four points to their country and with 28 points they are will in the lead. Second, once again, comes Singapore. This time around, the Singaporeans couldn’t reach the grand finals but Plaatinum made it as deep as top four and they had three more players in the top 8. With Shoomsboiboi and StarofLight being relative underdogs, it only shows the deep player pool that Singapore has.

Despite having the most GosuCup champions with DaPh, Neilyo and zGGLeoz, Vietnam remain third in the race, but they’re getting closer, just two points behind Singapore and six behind the leaders from the Philippines.

1. Philippines Philippines – 28 points
2. Singapore Singapore – 24 points
3. Vietnam Vietnam – 22 points
4. Malaysia Malaysia – 4 points
4. Thailand Thailand – 4 points
4. Indonesia Indonesia – 4 points
7. India India – 1 point

So that was GosuCup #7 this last Saturday, but there’s another one coming right this weekend. Registrations for Cup #8 are already open and you should take the opportunity to sign up and compete. $500 and 52 World Championship points are on the lines, as usual.
