Misfits have been the surprise package of Dreamhack Tours, but their streak of upsets finally came to an end at the hands of Hellraisers.
All good fairy tales come to an end, and tale of Misfits did not have a happy ending. The final chapter started well enough, with a 3-0 lead on Cobble after taking the T pistol. But Hellraisers weren't in the mood to let their opponents take too much of an advantage and took the first gun round. Misfits had the money to buy but their attack on the B bomb site was comfortably shut down and they were forced into an eco and a 3-3 scoreline. Hellraisers made it four rounds in a row before the American team finally hit back with a couple of rounds of their own. The game remained tight all the way up to half time and it was Hellraisers who took the final round but Misfits who took the half 8-7.
The second pistol round looked to be going in Misfits favour but with the bomb planted, Bondik pulled off the 1v3 clutch to immediately tie the score. A couple of eco rounds later and Hellraisers had a 10-8 lead. With guns in hand, Misfits battled back in a messy round which ended with the time running out despite the Ukranian team seeming to have taken over the bomb site. A faster B hit in the next round got shut down by Misfits and the game was all tied up once again. The teams continued to trade rounds for a while until Hellraisers put their collective foot down. Starting at 11-11, they put up five rounds in a row to secure map point. Inventive play from the American team stemmed the bleeding and even pulled the game back to 15-14. A quick play into A was enough to secure the win for Hellraisers, however, and they would be confident going into Cache.
Indeed, the second map started off with a 3-0 lead for Hellraiser’s T side, despite Misfits bringing their first eco round down to a 1v1. Things didn’t get any easier in the gun rounds, as Hellraisers were reliant on a quad kill and a 1v2 clutch from Deadfox to win the round. Another eco round put HR up 5-0 but Misfits finally got on the scoreboard in the 6th round thanks to a triple kill from Shazam’s AWP. Misfits took back-to-back rounds and eventually clawed their way back to 7-5 before HR managed another round. The Ukrainian team got their own couple of rounds in a row before their opponents closed out the final round of the half to leave the score at 9-6.
The second half started almost identically to the first. Hellraisers won the pistol and almost lost to a force buy in the second round. Only a ninja defuse from Zero spared their blushes. The first gun round was similarly messy, with a boost from the CTs in mid resulting in two kills and players spread out across the map. Living up to their name, Hellraisers thrived in the chaos and took a 13-6 lead. Mifits were forced to eco but did manage to win a 7th round when they were able to buy again. That was it for them, though, and Hellraisers were able to close out a comfortable looking 16-7 score.
Hellraisers now wait in the final for the winner of G2 vs Mousesports.
