GosuRankings August report: Fnatic remains number one

What are the GosuRankings?

The GosuRankings is the most extensive player and team database in existence for CS:GO. Fueled by the GosuGamers tournament database which currently spans over more than 285 tournaments, the CS:GO rankings track teams’ career-long performance in all tournaments, qualifiers and show matches they take part in and appoints them a certain numbers. The rankings also take into account the so called “tournament importance” meaning winning the Major tournament means more than coming out on top of a weekly open cup.

Below, we take a look at the bigger events that happened in the month of August.

  • Note 1:August's results aren't solely responsible for the final rankings; they merely add to players' lifetime career performances.
  • Note 2: Tournament importance varies even within a particular tier (i.e. not all tier 2 events are equal)
  • Note 3: Tiers are NOT the official way of determining/naming tournament importance by GosuCrew. These are used so that some basic mechanics of the system are articulated better to our readers.

World's top 3

All ranking numbers are as of  July 1st. It's possible that rankings have changed since publication.

Fnatic once again reign at the top of our editorial rankings. In August the Swedish team was almost unstoppable, losing only one match throughout the whole month. It turned out once again that Team SoloMid is the only team that can pick a fight with the Swedish superhouse. Despite this slight setback Fnatic showed their real colors when it was most important in Cologne.

In the previous month, Fnatic managed to secure another major title for their team, defeating EnVyUs in the finals 2-0. August was finished with an 88% win rate, losing only to TSM 3-0 in the grand finals of the GameShow league. We eagerly await the arrival of a team that will be able to contest Fnatic for the first place of our rankings.

August brought a change to the second place of our editorial rankings. The new roster of the French-based team EnVyUs took over this spot from Team SoloMid. Ever since the roster change, where they brought in kennyS and apeX, the French guys only lost to Mousesports at IEM Gamescom. This streak was extended to ESL One Cologne as well, where they finally lost to Fnatic at the grand finals.

Overall August was really good month for Team EnVyUs, bearing in mind that they had a roster change which didn't shake the team's performance a lot. On the contrary, they arguably became a lot stronger, which was manifested on the playing field. However the French guys will be looking back at the previous month with a pinch of salt, knowing that once again they lost to their nemesis, Fnatic. This loss will have ever more impact, due to the fact that it was at one of the majors. Regardless of past failures, the future of this team is undoubtedly bright.

Team SoloMid took third place in our editorial rankings for August. The Danish team was always sitting at the second place, however this time they gave it up to EnVyUs, due to the lack of results at ESL One Cologne. Team SoloMid had a really stable performance throughout the whole year and everyone was expecting them to explode during this major. They were considered as the only threat to Fnatic, but unfortunately karrigan and co. didn't manage to push further than the semi finals.

Although the Danish team dropped one place in our rankings, they still had a very good month by finishing it with a 72% win rate, 13 wins and 5 losses. The biggest loss was at ESL One Cologne, also prior to this, they were shaken in the PGL group stage where they lost to Virtus.pro. They still managed to qualify for the PGL LAN finals and we've yet to see what their performance will be like in September.

Live rankings' top 10

August was a month marked by the second major of the year. We saw some changes in the top of the rankings, with the first place still being uncontested. After their ESL One Cologne win, Fnatic is still sitting sovereign at the top, waving to their opponents, who still have a rocky road infront of them to be able to challenge the Swedes for the first place.

Following their great results ever since the roster change, Team EnVyUs climbed up to the second place where they knocked down Team Solomid to fourth place. The semi finals of ESL One Cologne between those two teams was a direct clash for the second place of our rankings and the French team managed to come out on the top of it with 2-1.

Besides Team EnVyUs, Virtus.pro also had a great month. The Poles were looking really hyped up for ESL One Cologne and they were really close to reaching the finals by eliminating no other than the kings, Fnatic. However, Fnatic pulled out some of their magic, leaving pasza and co. the mere satisfaction of getting through to the semi-finals and nothing else. Nevertheless their great results have brought them third place in our rankings.

The rest of the top 10 table looks more or less similiar to the previous month. We have Natus Vincere and Ninjas in Pyjamas who will be swapping around the 5th place, both being a bit inconsistent in their performances. Then there is also Cloud9, Team Dignitas, HellRaisers and Mousesports who are better than the rest of the teams on the rankings, but still not strong enough to contest any of the teams who are currently sitting above them. It's also worth mentioning that Team Kinguin is displaying fast growth on the rankings and it's highly expected to see them in the top 10 of this month.
